Carmel Highlands is located just a few miles south of Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA, just past Point Lobos State Reserve. The coastal line is one of the most beautiful you may ever see in your lifetime and is particularly rugged and jagged with a mixture of Bedroock and other weathered and eroded materials. Carmel Highlands is home to Point Lobos, Wildcat Cove, Yankee Point and Otter Cove and the incredible Highlands Inn which features magnificent ocean views of the Carmel Highlands ans the surf below. The lifestyle in the Highlands is a little more laid back than in town and tends to attract artists and creative thinkers as well as those who just appreciate the scenic beauty the coast has to offer.
The coastline offers fairly close up views of whales, dolphins, sea otters and other sea life that calls this rugged coastline home or is migrating on by. The California Condor is making a comeback and can sometimes be seen along this pristine coastline.
Carmel Highlands real estate is spread out over 5 fairly distinct neighborhoods each with it's own terrain and allure.
The Highlands Inn neighborhood consists of the homes and estates back off the water and on the hills around the famous Carmel Highlands Inn. These homes typically have distant views of the jagged coastline and Pacific Ocean's blue glow and are normally on a fairly sloped piece of land. This is one of the closest neighborhoods to Carmel-by-the-Sea, being only 4-5 miles away.
No front line ocean views here but Lobos Ridge is home to some of the most breathtaking views the Monterey Peninsula has to offer. With sweeping views of Point Lobos, Carmel Bay, Pebble Beach and even the north side of Monterey Bay possible from this unique vantage point along with extreme privacy, this is a desirable area.
The inland area, east of Hwy 1 between Wildcat Creek and Malpaso Rd is called the Malpaso neighborhood. This area is home to some large estate homes and can offer up some very nice blue water views from a perch on the side of the coastal mountains.
If you are looking for Ocean front Carmel Highlands property, the Yankee Point and Otter Cove neighborhood will be on your list to check out. With Spindrift Road, Yankee Point Drive and the gated enclave of Aurora Del Mar all running along the coastline west of Hwy 1, this is a very exciting piece of California coast with stunning beauty and close up living with all the Monterey Marine Sanctuary has to offer. One never tires of the sounds and sights of the large Pacific Ocean waves crashing upon the rocky coastline. Living here is a dream come true!
There is a small patch of homes right below the Highlands Inn on the west side of Highway 1 that fall into the Point Lobos neighborhood although the majority of this area is made up by the State Reserve. These homes are typically water front homes and are close to the highway making them convenient to get to town in a hurry but sometimes a little less private than some of the other Carmel Highlands properties. Be sure to check each one out as they all are different and the views of Wildcat Cove are very special and being so close to Point Lobos State Reserve is a real plus as it is a very beautiful and interesting place to explore.
