The Quail Lodge area has been one of the most sought after neighborhoods in all of Carmel Valley for as long as I can remember. In addition to the may amenities the Quail Lodge area offers, most people love it due to its close proximity to Carmel-by-the-Sea. It is away from the hustle and bustle of the tourists but close enough to have easy access when you want it. In addition, this area has relatively flat terrain, making it easy to get out and exercise daily, even when you are in your retirement years.
Quail area real estate is eclectic, like most of the area. Most of the homes around the golf course were mid century modern styled homes and many still are today. However many homes have been remodeled and transformed into many different popular styles of architecture. You will find Italian style villas, Spanish colonials, ranches, French country and even Tudors...
Since this is one of the most popular areas in all of Carmel Valley, you will not find any inexpensive homes. Most will sell for well over a million dollars with$2-3M fairly common for remodeled homes in nice condition.
Quail Meadows is a luxury enclave of 56 properties located behind a private gate off of Ranch San Carlos Rd. just west of Quail Lodge's Golf Course. The Santa Lucia Preserve offers a very unique opportunity to live in and among 20,000 acres of protected land. The preserve amenities include 100 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails, an 18 acre lake for fishing and boating, a sports center, pools, waterslide, hot tub, equestrian center and a Tom Fazio designed 18 hole golf course. Commonly referred to as just The Preserve, there are 300 homesites sprinkled around the 20,000 acres of raw California land.
Building envelopes for homes are predefined with the remainder of the properties acreage belonging to the preserved land of the Santa Lucia Conservancy, which is a non profit conservation trust established to protect The Preserve Lands in perpetuity.
The downside to the Preserve is also it's upside in my opinion. You are up in the Santa Lucia mountains, which means you are further away from Carmel, Monterey, Pebble Beach and all of the amenities that come with this world class destination. On the other hand, you are in the country enjoying the peace, quiet and restorative properties that come along with spending time in this beautiful locale.
All homes in the in the Preserve are luxury status and, as you might expect, are pricey. With over 100 homes built now, there are normally some choices and the styles are also eclectic as with most of the Monterey Peninsula and surrounding areas. You can expect to pay in excess of $4,000,000 for a new or relatively new home. There are lots available as well if you want to build your own luxury home.
