Corral de Tierra Neighborhood

Corral de Tierra is located off the Hwy 68 Corridor near the mid-point between Monterey and Salinas.  It is known for its scenic beauty which inspired John Steinbeck to write about this area frequently in his short stories including The Pastures of Heaven which was published in 1932.  Steinbeck and his sister Mary used to play in the valley under Castle Rock according to one report, which is what Corral de Tierra was named after, ”The Fence of Earth.”

Corral de Tierra is known for its beautiful weather as well as the beautiful scenery.  Those wanting to escape the coastal fog and colder temperatures are attracted to Corral de Tierra and sister Canyon, San Benancio to the East.  Located about 10 miles inland from Monterey’s coast, the weather here is typically 10-20 degrees warmer than in Monterey and the canyon frequently protects residents from the wind that comes up in the Salinas Valley each afternoon, making this an ideal location for a residence.

About Corral de Tierra Real Estate

Corral de Tierra real estate is pretty eclectic in nature.  The majority of Corral de Tierra homes were built just after the Corral de Tierra Country Club was built in 1959.  This spurred construction in Corral de Tierra over the next 10 years and is why we see so many 1960’s style ranch homes in Corral de Tierra and the surrounding areas of San Benancio and Toro Park.  New construction continues today in Corral de Tierra and San Benancio Canyons but the majority of the lots have been built out.

Corral de Tierra is a great place to find and older home to remodel and to surround yourself with your own private acreage.  It is rural by nature and many homes include horses and farm animals making it ideal for those who are a bit more adventurous than the city folk. It is however convenient to both the Salinas Valley and the Monterey Peninsula with commute times being just 10-15 minutes.
